The Courtyard

The courtyard of the Garden is capped with net, and many kinds of birds are let loose in it. The courtyard is occupied by a rectangular pond called Nakaniwa-Ike(the Courtyard Pond), that is surrounded by corridor with eaves. The visitors can enjoy handling birds without any trouble even on rainy days. Many ducks and swans swim in the pond, and some other birds(stilts, pheasants, peafowls etc.) walking along the corridor. You can feed them with a cup of food at 100yen.

Mallard Duck, very greedy one. Mute Swan. Up to 16kg, it is the second heaviest bird that can fly.

Black Swans, native to Australia. One of a pair of Common Shelducks that were brought from Matsue Vogelpark in May 2010.

Male Golden Pheasant, native to SW China, with colourful plumage. Male Indian Peafowl during display, spreading its decorative feathers up to 150cm. Silver Pheasant. Black-Necked Stilts with long, slender legs.

An island is in the pond. Scarlet Ibis, Grey Crowned Cranes and many other birds live in there.

Helmeted Guineafowls on the island. Grey Crowned Crane with spiny crown.

Early Dinner for Waterfowls & Carps In late afternoon, "Early Dinner for Waterfowl & Carps" is held. You can join in the event at 100yen.
